SL Xmas Shopping... IN HELL

Yea so I'm one of those last minute people. I could go into all the reasons why I'm a last minute kinda girl, but I'll spare you :P Now that it's down to the wire, my time is really short and, of course, this is compounded by the fact that I have no idea whatsoever what to get for the people on my short list. I mean what do you get the people who have everything? Building something great and unique would be a great idea... if I'd come up with anything interesting before.. umm... December friggen 22nd! So, with that as a non option, I'm scrambling (and blogging when I should be shopping anyhow!)

This was so much easier when my circle was relative newbs. Buy them a great new outfit from PixelDolls or Nevermore or Nomine... Not so easy anymore for a number of reasons.

For starters, most of my friends aren't newbs anymore. Gotta go and raise the bar, huh. Great :P Secondly, they buy what they want. Could ya leave something for us to give you? And this is just the start of why it's hellishlike. Store cards or gift certificates... seems like a decent idea. There will come a day when so and so will want to get something at their favorite shop and it would be nice to have a card to go and just buy it. Unfortunately, I'm not on board with the whole notecard gift certificate system. How is this a good option? I've been to a few places with the sole intention of buying a store card for someone on my list only to opt not to buy their offering of store gift certificate in the form of here's a notecard, redeem it to the creator with a list of what you'd like. No change will be provided. If you want more than your gift "certificate" is worth, then you will need to pay the linden to me first before receiving your items. In this world of instant gratification is the best way, this doesn't work for me. Say I give someone a gift "certificate" for L$1000... do they have to wait until they find everything they want to buy in order to list it all for the designer and cash in their "gift"? No no no, not good.

So, in each case, I left. Well, except when I saw something else that I could buy for myself :P Bad Rosie! Shopping for others!

I have gift cards, or "store cards", for some stores in SL. This seems to work well. I go and buy what I want when I want it. That amount comes off of the gift card. I have a remaining balance that I can use for future purchases... which is especially nice to use for new releases! Why isn't this system more prevelant in more stores? Are there issues with it? Does it cost alot of money? Seems like less work for the designer to maintain the system as well as being more user friendly for the consumer.

Not only am I having a problem with deciding what presents to buy, but the art of "surprising" people with what I've got them is touchy. Taking away mapping rights can cause anxiety and uncertainty, I'm sure... but let it be! :P DO NOT log on any number of your alts who may also have mapping rights to see if THEY can find where I'm at. Trust me, there's no story here :P Just shopping!

So maybe someone can explain why more stores don't offer a store card vs. the traditional notecard gift certificate?

The Grande Tour

It took me foreverlike but I kinda got my house the way I want it... for now. Been so long since I've had my own digs to bop around in that I thought I'd give the whole detailed tour here. So, I have my very own lil corner plot on a beautiful beach sim. Some say oh so original with your beaches but eh, whatever! It's a corner beach plot! Ok, so the Italian Cypress row doesn't actually go so well, but we'll get to the reasons for it...

This is my lovely living area. Where I receive all of my guests and visiting dignitaries. I serve tea and whatnot... or at least I so do when my staff doesn't have the day off! It's really the little things that make my day... like the shadows under the furniture! lol.

Awww my cute tree... needs presents *hint hint*

My creative office where I make teh magic happen... or get distracted by friends, or the fashion feed... whatever! It has potential!

My hot tub o'wub... where I lure aforementioned dignitaries after they've been served spiked tea. You wanted to know, huh?

My Happy Place. Unfortunately, I haven't gone there alot, but it's beautiful. Incidentally, the way the waves make a corner is really, umm, interesting.

The steps to the *dun dun dun* second floor. And one of my favorite things... the luminarias. Look awesome in midnight.

And this. Where the real magic happens. Well, if you think magic is me unpacking boxes and going bald and all weird as I try on the new stuff in my inventory. C'mon admit it, we all have this place in our slhome.

And, lastly, the reason for the cypress wall. Don'tcha just love neighbors?

TMI Tuesday: Holiday Meme

Jell got me again... A lil something to do during downtime :D

Here are the rules:
(1) Each player starts with answering the questions about themselves.
(2) People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (answering same questions) and post these rules.
(3) At the end of your blog, you need to choose five (ha! I so changed it) people to get tagged and list their names.
(4) Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. Are you and early shopper or a late shopper?
Always a late one though every year I resolve to start shopping earlier. And I have high expectations for the gifts I want to give so alot of times I am so disappointed in how little I'm actually giving that the gift ends up crap :P
2. What is your favorite cartoon (current or passed)?
I'm gonna take this as a holiday question. Not sure those clay-things were considered cartoons (Rudolph and the Toys of Misfit Island), but I watched those every year. My favorite all time has to be Heat Miser and Cool Miser in Santa Claus is Comin to Town (that is the right one, isn't it? lol)

3. On a scale of 1-10, how competent are you on home repair projects?
1? lol actually prolly not that bad, but there is a tendency to freakout when certain things go wrong. I can build shit with directions and I'm meticulous about them. But fixing like water problems or electrical? Um, no, you must be referring to someone else. Of course I can change a light bulb... does that qualify?
4. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Opening just one present on Christmas Eve before bed.
5. Describe your favorite kiss? Do you give it or receive it?
Receive it. Who says it's better to give than receive? :P
Bonus (as in optional):What is the best holiday gift you have ever gotten? Best you've given?
I'd have to say one of the 'best' gifts I've received recently were the black market *prada* and *gucci* bags my friend Allison gave me. Best I've given? 1999 I made 2k packs for almost everyone I knew that included 2000 champagne flutes, poppers, confetti, decorated masquerade masks, hats, and assorted party fun items.
Okay, I'm taggin: Gillian Waldman, Hawksrock Gunawan, Mygdala March, Alexx Markova, and Orchid Glitterbuck. Have at it!

8 Random Factlets

So, I was tagged a couple days ago, but it really wouldn't be my style at all to act on this in a timely manner, even though Jelly said it would bring me bad luck to break the chain :O

Here are the rules:

(1) Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
(2) People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
(3) At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
(4) Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

My Facts...

1. I am fundamentally suspicious of Tom Hanks. Anyone this squeaky clean is bound to have skeletons in their closet. And, no, I didn't like Forest Gump either.

2. I eat my eggs with mustard. Ketchup is just wrong. Scrambled eggs, mind you. Fried eggs slathered with any condiment is gross.

3. I took drama for 4 years in High School and managed to never once be in a major production of any kind. Instead, a group of us were 'renowned' for our lip synching skills and put together colorful shows covering The Jackson 5's "ABC", Tina Turner's "Proud Mary", and winning first place for our "awe-inspiring" performance of Queen's "Flash" (complete with strobe light and neon silly string).

4. In the 6th grade, while reading Sidney Sheldon's 'Rage of Angels', I asked my teacher, Mr. Jarvis, what "testicle crushers" were.

5. For April Fool's Day one year, I snuck into my work parking lot very early in the morning and replaced the license plate frames on two of my co-workers cars. One said "Backstreet Boys Rock", which is just funny in itself. It took them 2 days to realize they'd been sabotaged :D

6. I failed P.E. in high school, and although I was able to walk at my graduation, I had to take Ceramics the summer after my Senior year to get my diploma. On the other hand, I aced AP English.

7. I sell bras for a living, and measure women for bras. I'm not quite sure how I feel realizing that I've become accustomed to touching and gesturing with my bewbs in public often.

8. I once attended an Easter Brunch where David Soul (Hutch!) was also a guest.

That's it! I never do these things, see why? lol. Now, for who to tag... I don't really know anyone who hasn't already done it and not sure who has or hasn't been tagged... but Akasha Nyak, Posy Trudeau, Laylah Mistral, Phobos Jamberoo, Zabitan Assia, Aly Shark, Kiki Cunningham. Yea, that's only 7, sue me :D

KSU Diaries: Homesick

Seems like my first few days at Kindly have flown by in a blur. Which, I guess I should be thankful for. Now that I've had a chance to slow down and take it all in, I'm not sure how 'at home' I feel here yet. It's a far cry from sunny california, and it's lovely to be able to see the seasons changing and feel winter coming on. I know I'm in for much more dramatic weather than I experienced while growing up in the California sunshine.

Although I couldn't make the trip with Jelly and Aka, I'm happy to report that I was able to secure my room to share with Jell. Of course, leave it to Jelly and Aka... they did their part to make me feel welcome upon my arrival with posters plastered on *my* side of the room of Erkel and Screech. Bitches! Paybacks, that's all I'm sayin.

I don't know why I'd describe this feeling as being homesick. What's to miss? My bestest friends ever are here with me! Sure there's no mom and dad, but really,.. YAY for that :D It's just that it's not the same as highschool, and I'm not sure whether or not that's a good thing yet. The girls here all seem so much older. Everyone seems really nice and I look forward to meeting lots of new people. I have worked so hard for the last couple years to save up the money to go away to school, so I'm really looking forward to this year! I still have to work to be able to keep up with everything going on here, which totally sucks! Already I missed the Harvest Festival this weekend. It hasn't been until just now that I've been able to really spend any time with my friends or start unpacking! One thing's for sure! I'm going to need alot more winter clothes! Ooooh, shopping!
